The cider factory designed by BORD Architectural Studio is located on the Old Hill in Etyek (Hungary) where the landscape has long been defined by the sight of small wine press houses with gable roofs among the vineyards. A father and son, both passionate wine enthusiasts, embarked on a family venture to establish an apple orchard and a cider production facility. Their dream was to establish a youthful, modern processing facility that harmonizes with the emerging elegant and sophisticated character of Hungarian apple cider. Inspired by the Tartan pattern, the architectural concept transformed the traditional gable roof into a unique spatial arrangement. The building masses rise out of the hillside, reminiscent of old-fashioned cellar entrances, while blending seamlessly into the landscape in terms of scale too. The design combines the functionality of industrial manufacturing with the elegance of hospitality. The building serves as a hub for cider production, where the community can gather to appreciate the rich colours, flavours and textures of cider making. The underground production area is accessed through the courtyard, and above, the guest lounge offers a stunning view of the factory below. On the top floor, the offices and mechanical rooms are hidden in the gable roof. The building symbolises the connection between nature, tradition and the joy of harvest.
