Jose Herrasti
Founding Principal , MUTUO
Jose Herrasti is a founding principal of Mutuo. He grew up in Mexico and came to the US from Mexico City in 1996 to pursue a a graduate degree of architecture at Columbia University. He worked in internationally recognized architectural practices in Los Angeles before founding Mutuo in 2014. Jose is a creative collaborator focused on designing and building projects and materializing exhibitions that support Mutuo's discourse. His housing research addresses the systemic political and economic barriers to creating quality, affordable housing and proposes solutions that utilize innovative forms and new construction methodologies. He is currently the president of the Los Angeles Forum for Architecture and Urban Design. He is also a John G. Williams Distinguished Visitor in the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design at the University of Arkansas. In 2020 he was the chair of the Political Outreach Committee for the American Institute of Architects, Los Angeles chapter. He is a design lecturer at the University of Southern California. Jose is licensed in California and in Mexico.
